What is MyNSR?

The Malaysia National Skills Registry (MyNSR) is a platform established to provide a comprehensive and dynamic national skills framework with information on skills requirements for various occupations and sectors in Malaysia. MyNSR aims to showcase a standardised skills taxonomy and classification that acts as a national reference for skills definition, including new and emerging skills. The platform applies skills information to current skills frameworks, labour market analytics platforms, academia syllabus revision, as well as upskilling and reskilling purposes.

MyNSR was established by TalentCorp, which was mandated by the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) to develop and establish a comprehensive and dynamic national skills framework throughout the duration of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) from 2021 to 2025. The platform is designed to enhance human capital planning by the government, agencies, businesses, and public, by facilitating the collection and harmonisation of data from traditional and emerging sources for central analytics.

The MyNSR aims to act as a central platform with information on occupation and skills based on internationally benchmarked and accepted standards to assist in policy coordination. By establishing an extensive network of cooperation between the government, industries, and training providers, MyNSR will facilitate academia to formulate academic programmes, thus enabling locals to be employed in new skilled jobs created. The MyNSR platform is expected to play a crucial role in equipping the existing workforce with new skills requirements and showcasing current skills suited for different occupations listed in the classification of occupations.

The main MyNSR structures include:

i. Basic Skills – Basic skills are essential skills for a person to be able to be fit for a job.
ii. Specific Skills – Specific skills will be defined as a skill relating to a specific task or situation. It involves both understanding and proficiency in such specific activity that involves methods, processes, procedures, or techniques.
iii. Technology Skills – This category of skills is adapted from both O*Net and the Australia Skills Classification that separates technology-related skills such as Adobe photoshop, and more.
